In this book black people get discriminated against many times. One example of this discrimination is that at the Selma Voter Registration Office, there was a special room for "colored" people. That room wasn't very special, though. No one who worked there cared about that room, so it was gross, dirty, and smelled like smoke with cigarette butts on the floor. The white lady working at the register locked the door and didn't let any one in. She didn't care if the black people were going to vote. She didn't care about how much it meant for that person to vote. She doesn't think it is important for a person to vote just because they are black. The unlocked door to room for white people had many voters coming in and out. Black people also had to take an impossible test before voting, but white people didn't have to take that test.

chapter 6

They threaten the blacks so badly that they are afraid that if they even try to do something, they'll be killed.
They called them a terrible name. a name that is so horrible most people never dare say it.
They yelled out "get the -----------!!! Which is calling them that name, but also charging at them and threatening to kill them for no good reason.
allof these things gave a weird feeling because its all so cruel.

chapter 6

I couldn't believe how badly the black peoplewere treated. All lewis and Williams were trying to do was have a non violent protest on the streets and have a word with the major. But they went crazy and started violently beating them. It was horrible.
